Mitsubishi Electric Launches Industry-first RedLINK Wireless Controller for the Home
Wednesday, May 16, 2012SUWANEE, Ga., May 16, 2012 - Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating (Mitsubishi Electric), America's No. 1 selling brand of ductless cooling and heating technology, has launched its unique RedLINK™* wireless controller for its residential line of ductless cooling and heating systems. The controller allows homeowners to have direct wireless control over the Mitsubishi Electric heating and air-conditioning systems in their homes, resulting in increased comfort and energy savings.
Other household thermostats operate through infrared waves, which require a direct line of site to operate, or electrical wires, which must run through the walls. In contrast, the RedLINK wireless controller (pictured left) communicates through radio frequency.
"Because these controllers use radio waves to connect to the home's cooling and heating system, they eliminate the need for electrical and control wiring - the controller and the HVAC system it operates don't even need to be in the same room," says Marc Zipfel, director of product marketing, Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating. "Since we avoid the limitations of electrical control wiring and infrared waves, we can operate more accessories compatible with the RedLINK wireless controllers, and tie them together to provide monitoring and control capabilities that were previously unheard of."
For centralized comfort control, RedLINK wireless controllers are available with a Portable Central Controller (PCC) accessory (pictured left) that wirelessly connects and operates up to 16 RedLINK controllers throughout the home. Homeowners can control the temperature in a den, basement, bedroom or kitchen without having to leave the comfort of their living room. The PCC also includes a timer function, allowing homeowners to cool and heat only the rooms they plan to use, when they plan to use them, saving money on energy bills.
RedLINK wireless controllers are also compatible with the Honeywell RedLINK Internet Gateway (RIG, pictured right) which lets homeowners control their home comfort systems remotely through a Web browser, iPhone®, iPad®, Android® or other Internet-enabled smart device. Through RIG, homeowners can access the Total Connect™ Comfort portal and download free apps that allow them to remotely monitor and control their Mitsubishi Electric HVAC systems. With RIG, homeowners can turn the HVAC system on or off, monitor the temperature in each room and adjust it accordingly, and set up system alerts. The optional Outside Air Sensor (OAS) accessory will also monitor outdoor temperature and humidity.
