In the heart of southwestern Virginia, an HVAC business is doing big things − not just for its customers, but for its community. David Cochran, Jr., owner of Complete Comfort in Chilhowie, Va., has built a reputation on trust, quality, and a commitment to making a difference.
Most recently, his company made headlines for its contribution to Isaiah 117 House, a Lynchburg haven for children entering the foster care system. Complete Comfort donated and installed a Mitsubishi Electric all-electric, all-climate heat pump system. The company’s work was made possible through the Mitsubishi Electric HVAC US (METUS) Community Awareness Reward Enablement System (C.A.R.E.S.) program. The METUS C.A.R.E.S. program is designed to support contractors' community outreach efforts in their local markets.
From Humble Roots to a Heartfelt Mission
Complete Comfort has served Washington and Smith Counties, including towns like Bristol, Abingdon, and Marion, for more than 15 years. With a team of about 20 employees, the company thrives on word-of-mouth and stellar Google reviews.
At the core of Complete Comfort is a desire to give back, and that’s where the Isaiah 117 House project came in.
A Safe Place for Children in Crisis
Isaiah 117 House provides temporary housing and comfort for children who are being removed from unsafe situations. The home is nearing completion and will soon provide children entering foster care with a warm, welcoming environment, giving them a place to rest during their first hours or days in transition.
Isaiah 117 House offers a safe, home-like space staffed by caring volunteers who provide stability, support, and essentials during those critical first moments. The house includes cozy living spaces, and an inviting upstairs area filled with clothes, toys, and comfort items that children can choose from to feel more at home.
For David, supporting Isaiah House was an easy decision. “Anything to help kids in need really tugs on my heartstrings,” he said. “I felt very strongly that this was a place to donate the heat pump.” His team didn’t just donate the all-electric, all-climate equipment − they installed a full HVAC solution tailored to the home’s layout and needs.
Technical Support Meets Compassionate Action
Complete Comfort installed a Mitsubishi Electric SMART MULTI® Hyper-Heating INVERTER® (H2i®) heat pump system with a branch box and two indoor units − one servicing the main floor with a multi-positional air handler and another servicing the upper floor with a Designer Wall-mounted Unit. Hyper-Heating INVERTER models provide 100% heating performance down to 5° F with guaranteed heating down to -13° F. These units offer year-round comfort even in extreme climates.
This was a new construction home, only requiring minor modifications for ductwork during the installation of the systems.
The Isaiah House team was overwhelmed with gratitude, and the community took notice. One customer even purchased an all-electric, all-climate heat pump system from Complete Comfort because of its support for Isaiah House.
A Partnership Built on Purpose
The project was a collaborative effort. METUS supplied the HVAC equipment, while Ferguson, Complete Comfort’s distributor, donated all necessary parts and materials.
“It was a team effort from start to finish, with David, his team, and Ferguson providing exceptional service,” said Cody Waldon, Area Sales Manager, METUS, who has worked closely with David for the past two years.
David’s experience with the METUS C.A.R.E.S. program has been overwhelmingly positive. He praised the ease of collaboration and the willingness of both METUS and Ferguson to support the initiative. “As long as they’ll have us, we’ll keep doing projects like this,” he said.
Making a Lasting Impact
This is far from a one-time endeavor. David has plans to support another Isaiah House in a neighboring county, pending approval. His advice to other contractors is to find the right community project and donate an all-electric, all-climate heat pump system to a family or charity in need.
David and Complete Comfort are proof that small businesses can drive big change. Through partnerships, purpose, and people-first values, the company has turned a standard HVAC install into something much more: a story of comfort, compassion, and community.
